Dr. Nolte and Dr. Kelley bought the practice in 2006. She attended the University of North Dakota from 1988 to 1992. She then went to Veterinary School at the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1996.
Dr. Nolte has always liked surgery and interesting medical cases. She believes one of the most rewarding aspects of veterinary medicine though, is working with a pet and owner over the lifetime of the pet. There is the joy and excitement (and often frustration)that comes with a new puppy or kitten, keeping them healthy in mid life, and managing aging with all of its challenges.
At home she has a 6 year old german shepard named Nico and his partner in crime Wilson, who is a 6 year old flat coat retriever.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Nolte’s indoor hobbies include crocheting and landscape felting. Nobody knows what the second one is. Ask her and she’ll tell you all about it! Outdoor hobbies include hiking, gardening, working on her koi pond and fishing. She also enjoys working with my dog, Nico. They do Nose Work, Rally and have recently started Barn Hunt.
Dr. Kelley and Dr. Nolte bought the practice in 2006. He graduated in 1996 with Dr. Nolte and Dr. Julie from the University of Minnesota. He completes all daily operations and deals with all of the shenanigans of his great staff. He currently does not see patients.
He has a 6 year old flat coat retriever named Wilson, who is his sidekick. In his free time he enjoys listening to music and collecting vinyl records. Additionally he enjoys going for walks and learning about nature. He has a huge affinity for trees and enjoys learning about them.
Dr. Julie has been at Midway since 2020. She graduated veterinary school in the same class as Dr. Nolte and Dr. Kelley, in 1996. She did most of her undergraduate at the University of MN and graduated from veterinary school there as well. Fun fact, she worked in the insurance business in Minneapolis for several years prior to going back to school to become a veterinarian.
She loves old cats and geriatric medicine and in many ways is interesting and rewarding to her as well as the problem-solving aspects of internal medicine generally. She says she does not have a surgeon mentality or dexterity, unfortunately, and tries to stay far away from sharp instruments and leaves that to Dr. Nolte with her impressive skills in surgery and dentistry! Finally, She loves her clients and the engagement with people is nearly as rewarding to me as the care of their beloved pets.
She’s got a crew at home: Milo the much loved Chihuahua mixed breed who unhappily competes for attention with the three cats — Bobbi, Luca and the beautiful baby, Freddie. Everyone gets along well despite all wanting to be the only pet (except maybe Luca and Freddie, they are pretty close). She can’t imagine living without pets. She has had pets ever since she was little. Her mother and grandmother both loved and kept Siamese cats, many of them named Ming.
She has two adult daughters, Joelle and Leandra, that take up her time whenever they’ll let her take up theirs! She loves reading, watching movies, listening to jazz music and live music when she can manage to get herself out of the house at night as well as visiting with friends and family. She is a member of the MN Board of Veterinary Medicine which she finds rewarding and challenging at times which takes up some of her time outside of Midway as well.

Ben has been at Midway for 1 year. He has a Bachelor’s in Psychology and A.A.S in Occupational Therapy Assistant. After almost a decade in human medicine he decided to pursue his dream of working with animals. He started in the field in 2021 and worked at University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center prior to here. He says It’s been an incredible transition and couldn’t be more happy.
He really enjoys surgery and parasitology (yes, the creepy crawlies). He also enjoys the journey of helping patients and families though the good and the bad and getting to see patients make improvements.
At home he has a 7 year old tortie named Kathryn, she was named after the great captain Kathryn Janeway of the starship Voyager.
